A properly-sized solar heating system will raise the temperature of an unheated pool 10-15 degrees (F), often doubling the length of your swimming season.

A solar pool heating system is made up of three major parts: 

1) Solar panels (often referred to as solar collectors), most often constructed of a semi-rigid polymer such as polypropylene,

2) Pump to circulate pool water through the panels (90% of existing pump & filtration systems are more than adequate!),

3) Storage tank – in the case of a solar pool heater, the swimming pool itself is the storage tank.

If you have a pool and an existing pump, you are 2/3 of the way to a longer, more comfortable swim season thanks to solar.

Operation

Solar collectors can be mounted on the roof (as shown), or any location that receives sunlight 6-8 hours a day.

1) Using your existing pump pool water is diverted to the solar panels when there is sufficient sunshine.  Most solar pool heaters are controlled automatically through the use of sensors and a motorized valve, but manual control is an available option.

2) As your pool water moves through the black solar panels it is warmed by the sun’s free heat, before being returned to the pool via existing filtration returns.

3) Sunlite Solar Heaters are designed to work with your existing pool equipment, including traditional fossil-fuel heaters.  In a hybrid pool heating system, solar acts as the primary source of heat with any existing gas or electric heater as a back-up.
